VesCell
What is VesCell?
VesCell™ adult stem cell therapy is a treatment for heart disease that utilizes a patient’s own stem cells to build new blood vessels and heart muscle. The VesCell™ adult stem cell therapy process is very straightforward. The patient provides a 250cc blood sample from which technicians isolate and remove the stem cells in a patented process. They grow and multiply these cells in vitro, and sort them by their ability to regenerate blood vessels. These "most able" stem cells are then implanted back into the patient.
There are two different VesCell™ procedures used to treat iheart diseases. Depending upon the patient’s specific condition he may undergo either
(a) catheter implantation into the coronary arteries, or
(b) direct injection into the heart muscle (mini surgery)
to get the stem cells where they will do the most good.
The catheter implantation procedure is very similar to a balloon angioplasty. The intervention cardiologists uses a catheter to implant stem cells into coronary arteries where they grow into new blood vessels and capillaries that feed the heart. This procedure is most often used to treat ischemia (blockage), popularly known as angina.
The direct injection procedure is a mini surgery. The surgeon makes a small incision under the left armpit to gain access to the heart muscle. The left lung is deflated so a tiny light and camera can be inserted into the chest, projecting a huge TV picture onto a seven foot screen. Using a pre-mapped cat-scan diagram of that patient's heart, he makes about 30 injections of stem cells precisely into the areas of the heart where they will grow into new muscle tissue. This procedure is most often used to treat Non-Ischemic cardiomyopathy or severe congestive heart failure with moderate ischemia.
The treating doctors will make the final decision regarding which procedure is best for each patient, although patients’ home cardiologist is welcome to participate in the diagnosis and decision process. |
